MW+D Receives World Wide Licensing Agreement
from Roycroft Shops Inc.
On March 1st, 2001, Maine Wool + Design Corp. announced a
world wide licensing agreement with Roycroft Shops Inc. MW+D
will be producing a rug collection for Roycroft based on William
Morris and Frank Lloyd Wright designs.
Roycroft is a handicraft community founded in 1895 and located
in East Aurora, NY. In 1895 Elbert Hubbard, a renowned writer,
started the Roycroft Press to publish his biographical works
called, "Little Journeys." A few years later an
inn was built to accommodate the vast number of visitors that
visited Elbert Hubbard on a yearly basis. Needing to furnish
the inn, Elbert Hubbard had local craftsmen make simple straight
lined style furniture. The visitors loved the furniture so
much that they asked to buy it and thus the furniture manufacturing
company was born.
The furniture line that is now cherished and sought after
around the country has licensed MW+D's skilled artisans and
craftsmen to manufacture these rugs in Lewiston, Maine, with
the care and quality that Roycrofter's have come to expect
over the years.
